Manchester United Chasing World-Cup Winning Goalkeeper – But They Aren’t The Only Ones

Manchester United are believed to be chasing the signature of Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez, according to a report from Argentinian outlet TyC Sports.

With David De Gea’s status as a Manchester United player hanging in the balance, the Red Devils may look to bring in Martinez as a replacement.

Despite United’s supposed interest in the World Cup winner, they aren’t the only ones in the race to snap him up. According to TyC, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also keen to bring him on board.

Furthermore, TyC also reports that both Chelsea and Tottenham are believed to be ahead in the race to snap up the Argentinian shot-stopper.

Martinez’s career so far has been eclectic, to say the least. After being used as a backup ‘keeper at Arsenal, where he was frequently shunted out on loan, he was given a chance to shine when he secured a permanent transfer to Aston Villa.

Since then, the 30-year-old has cemented himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League – if not the world. This was exemplified during Argentina’s 2022 World Cup winning run, where he made numerous brilliant saves (including a crucial one in the final against France).

So far this season, Martinez has made 33 Premier League appearances for Aston Villa, concededing 35 goals and keeping 13 clean sheets.
