RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko has admitted that “it would be nice” to play in the Premier League in the future.
Manchester United were heavily linked with the Slovenian international earlier this year when he was still at Red Bull Salzburg. However, when asked about the interest from the Red Devils, the forward said a move to Leipzig was always his preference, even though he would be open to joining an English team at some point:
“The thing is, I wasn’t really involved in these kinds of conversations. But I think it was better to come here. It was very important for me to go to a place that plays a similar style of football.”
“I already knew what I had to do and didn’t have to go through a whole learning process again. It would be nice to play there (the Premier League). But for now, let’s focus on the now and then we’ll see.”
Whether United are actually still interested in Sesko, now they have recruited Rasmus Hojlund, it is hard to know, but they may still be monitoring his progress.
A potential replacement for Martial?
Hojlund will still need competition and, despite his goal against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night, you don’t feel Anthony Martial can provide that.
The Frenchman’s fitness record is very poor and, with his contract set to expire next summer, there is a chance he could be let go on a free transfer, if United decide against triggering their option to keep him for another year.
Sesko could, therefore, be considered as a replacement for Martial if he can impress with his performances in Germany.
United would have rivals for Sesko
It should be pointed out that Chelsea were also credited with an interest in the 20-year-old before his switch to Leipzig was confirmed.
With the Blues struggling to score goals, there is a decent chance that they may revive their interest in Sesko either in January or next summer, so United may have their work cut out if they want to bring him to Old Trafford.
