United star promises to improve

Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic says he plans on improving his performances this season for the club, after what he describes as a ‘simple’ start to the season.

The Serbian international moved to United during the summer from Chelsea in a £40m deal. He has been superb so far this season and chipped in with several Man Of The Match performances, with many predicting he could be the difference in United winning the title or not.

Matic missed a lot of pre-season, and when joining United he played only cameo roles in the side in order to get his fitness up to scratch. Because of this, Matic believes he is still not at his best – saying he will get better over the course of the season.

“My body is not ready yet and I have some difficulty, of course, but I try to hide that and to play simple. I will be better,” said Matic.

The 29-year-old has played in every Premier League game so far this season for United, as Mourinho’s men sit joint top of the table with rivals Manchester City. Their next game after the international break is the showdown with Liverpool – a game United will be desperate not to lose. But Matic is confident in his team, saying they are focused on the task ahead.

“We know what we have to do because we are Manchester United and we are focused just on the next game,” he added.

“Always the next game is the most important, so game by game we have to collect points and next May we will see. It’s a long way to go.”

“As you know, we’ve won almost every game, we only drew at Stoke – in the Premier League it is very hard to do this.”

“This can only be done by big teams, so we showed that we are a big team and we have to continue like this.”

“We cannot be relaxed for the future because we have to win more, focus because the teams now know how we play.”

“The teams know our formation, our players and, of course, in the future those will want to show they can play against Manchester United so we will be focused, we will be ready for that. It is going to be hard but that’s why we are here.”
