United Set To Take 40M Hit On 180K A Week Star With Player Resigned To Leaving Club

Manchester United expect to lose at least £40m on captain Harry Maguire if they decide to offload the defender in the summer, according to reports in England.

With the 29-year-old only playing a bit-part role under manager Erik ten Hag, he has now accepted that leaving Old Trafford at the end of the season may be the best course of action.

Equally, ten Hag won’t stand in Maguire’s way if he asks for a transfer. The likes of Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and even Luke Shaw are seemingly ahead of the England international in the pecking order.

There have also been reports that United will look to sign another centre-back in the next transfer window, which suggests the £180,000 star may get even less game time if he chooses to remain in Manchester.

It is a dramatic fall from grace for Maguire, who became the world’s most expensive defender when he made the £80m move from Leicester in 2019.
