United Star One Of 4 Premier League Players To Make Shortlist For Golden Boy Award

Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund has made the 25-man shortlist for the Golden Boy award.

The Danish international has been included along with three other Premier League players: Chelsea’s Levi Colwill, Brighton’s Evan Ferguson and Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez.

Hojlund made the move to Old Trafford from Atalanta for £72m in the summer and he has had a strong start to life in England, scoring 3 goals in his first 8 appearances.

In what has been a poor start to the season, the 20-year-old has been one of the few positives, having not shirked the responsibility of leading the line for United.

What is the Golden Boy award?

The prize is handed out to the best young player under the age of 21 by Italian newspaper Tuttosport. A public vote whittles down the shortlist but the winner is selected by journalists from across Europe.

Barcelona’s Gavi was last year’s recipient of the accolade. However, the Spanish international is not eligible for 2023, having won it already

Who is the favourite to be given the 2023 award?

Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham is the front-runner, having started this season in red-hot form with 10 goals and 3 assists in 10 appearances.

The 20 other nominees are Jamal Musiala (Bayern Munich), Xavi Simons (RB Leipzig), António Silva (Benfica), Alejandro Balde (Barcelona), Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen), Benjamin Sesko (RB Leipzig), Giorgio Scalvini (Atalanta), Johan Bakayoko (PSV Eindhoven), Arthur Vermeeren (Antwerp), Lucas Gourna-Douath (FC Salzburg), Warren Zaire-Emery (Paris Saint-Germain), Ousmane Diomande (Sporting Lisbon), Arnau Martínez (Girona), Mathys Tel (Bayern Munich), Andy Diouf (Lens), Arda Guler (Real Madrid), Bilal El Khannouss (Genk), Martin Baturina (Dinamo Zagreb), João Neves (Benifca) and Lamine Yamal (Barcelona).

The winner of the prize will be announced at a ceremony in Turin on December 4th.
