The Four Premier League Clubs Who Made It Into Forbes’ Top 50 ‘Most Valuable’ Sports Team

Forbes announced their Top 50 Most Valuable Sports Team for 2022 earlier this month but despite their global reach, no football club made the top 10.

6 NFL, three NBA and one baseball franchise lead the way, with the highest ranked soccer team being Real Madrid, who sit 13th, worth £4.4 Billion.

Forbes claims that NFL’s TV rights deal, which is estimated to be worth $112 billion over ten years, is the main reason why the American sport is so dominant. It means that only four Premier League sides are in the top 50.

Press the next page as we name the four English clubs in question and reveal how much each is worth.

4) Chelsea – £2.67 Billion

Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital paid an estimated £4.25 billion for the Blues so, if Forbes are to be believed, they shelled out almost double what the club is actually worth.

With plans to redevelop Stamford Bridge and to purchase a number of feeder clubs around the world, though, it’s likely that Chelsea’s value will increase markedly in the coming years.

3) Manchester City – £3.6 Billion

The Citizens’ success on the pitch has undoubtedly helped them to increase revenue from commercial sources over the past fifteen years to the extent that they are now able to run (slightly more) sustainably.

In fact, Forbes claims that City’s value has increased a staggering 102% in the last five years, which demonstrates the progress that the Manchester club has been making.

2) Liverpool – £3.84 Billion

Fenway Sports Group paid £300m for the Reds in 2010, and twelve years later, the club is now worth more than ten times that amount. That is not only down to good financial decisions but also due to on-field success, which was brought about by the appointment of Jurgen Klopp as manager.

Having reached three Champions League finals in five years, it has allowed Liverpool to finance the expansion of Anfield, as well as to increase revenue from shirt and kit sponsorship deals.

1) Manchester United – £3.9 Billion

Despite the mismanagement by the Glazer family, United remain the most valuable sports team in England, but that could change soon if things don’t improve both in the board room and on the pitch.

United are blessed with having a massive fanbase around the world, and that has helped to camouflage some of the major failings. However, more investment in the stadium, the training ground and the playing squad is clearly needed to maintain their status as the biggest club in English football.
