Romano Claims “Superb” United Target (Who Has Scored 6 Goals In 9 Games) Is Being Watched By “Big Clubs”

Brentford striker Ivan Toney is likely to be the subject of interest from “big clubs” next summer, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The 26-year-old was linked with both Manchester United and Chelsea before the transfer window closed last month and Romano claims the forward’s “superb” form will only increase interest in the player:

“He’s been superb in the Premier League and I think next summer we’ll have to monitor big clubs on him! His current contract expires in 2025, so Brentford are in a reasonably strong position, though I’m sure they would be determined to do all they can to get him to sign a new deal.”

Toney has scored six goals in nine league games so far this season. Ironically, none of those came against United in the Bees’ 4-0 victory back in August.

With Cristiano Ronaldo expected to leave Old Trafford when his contract expires at the end of the season, signing a new striker will be a priority for manager Erik ten Hag.

Whether Toney will be near the top of the list of potential replacements may depend on how he performs in the coming months, as well as Brentford’s valuation. As Romano points out, he is unlikely to be available on the cheap, so United will also be considering alternatives.
