United May Have To See Off Two Premier League Rivals If They Want To Land 26 Year Old Striker

Manchester United have been joined by Chelsea and Everton in the battle to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney, according to The Mirror.

The English tabloid claims that the 26-year-old, who dominated United’s backline last weekend, was being lined up as a potential replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, with the Portuguese international now seemingly poised to stay at Old Trafford, it could lead to Toney moving elsewhere this summer.

Chelsea have made Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang their top target to strengthen their frontline but they could switch their focus to Toney if their attempts to secure the Barcelona star fail.

Everton, meanwhile, have very few options up front, especially with Dominic Calvert-Lewin sidelined with injury. Even so, you would think that Toney would much prefer a move to Old Trafford or Stamford Bridge if he does leave Brentford before the transfer window shuts.

From United’s perspective, the club may still be in the market for a forward if Ronaldo stays but manager Erik ten Hag may focus his efforts on recruiting a wide player such as Ajax’s Antony or PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo instead.
