Paul Merson Predicts The Scoreline As Manchester United Face West Ham

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson is expecting a stalemate when Manchester United play West Ham on Sunday evening.

While he believes that Erik ten Hag‘s side will drop points at the London Stadium, he doesn’t think it will impact their chances of finishing in the top four:

“Manchester United have been terrible away from home this season. They played alright against Brighton, but the Seagulls were better in the second half and scored a deserved stoppage-time winner to secure all three points at the Amex Stadium. I think this game will end 1-1, but I still fancy Manchester United to secure a top-four finish this season and return to the UEFA Champions League.”

A 1-1 draw wouldn’t be the end of the world for United but that could potentially leave them just two points ahead of Liverpool if the Reds beat Brentford.

Of course, the Red Devils would still have a game in hand, but their North West rivals would be a little too close for comfort heading into the final four games of the campaign.

You would hope that United can secure all three points this weekend despite their poor away record. West Ham haven’t won at home in the league since the 1-0 win over Southampton at the start of last month. Since then, they have lost 5-1 to Newcastle, drawn 2-2 against Arsenal and lost 2-1 to Liverpool, which suggests they can be got at defensively. We shall see if ten Hag’s men can take advantage.
