Paul Merson Predicts The Outcome As United Face Brighton In The FA Cup Semi Final

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson is expecting a tight game when Manchester United take on Brighton in the FA Cup on Sunday.

While he does believe that the Seagulls will be a big threat to Erik ten Hag’s side, he still thinks that the Red Devils will come out on top:

“Brighton open up the game and when they have the ball, United can stop them. But when United have the ball, I’m not sure if Brighton can step up. United have plenty of experience at this stage – they’ve been at this stage too many times, while Brighton have never been there. I wouldn’t be shocked one bit if Man United lose this game. I don’t like going against Brighton, but I’m going to back Manchester United this weekend.”

Merson has gone with a 2-1 win to United, which seems like a good prediction when you consider the fact that the two teams are pretty well-matched.

It’s going to be a closely fought contest, especially with ten Hag’s team having a number of players on the treatment table.

The 3-0 defeat to Sevilla on Thursday exposed some of United’s vulnerabilities at the back so you wouldn’t expect them to keep a clean sheet at Wembley.

However, with Bruno Fernandes back in contention, and with Marcus Rashford expected to be available as well, they should have the firepower to overcome their opponents.
