Mourinho at the top of his managerial career

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho says he believes the club are reaping the rewards of his best moments as a manager so far in his career.

The Portuguese is one of the greatest managers of all time, with successful spells at Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid, before joining United.

Mourinho is now in his second season in charge at Old Trafford, and despite his brilliant record with previous clubs and the flurry of trophies he has won – the 54-year-old says he is currently coaching the best of his career.

His first year at United saw Mourinho bring a 6th place Premier League finish, with two major trophies on top. This season the Red Devils look like a much more serious force to be reckoned with though, as they hope to mount a serious challenge for the title and compete in the Champions League.

“I am a much better coach today, precisely because of the different control of my emotions. The way I deal with difficulties. I feel more mature,” Mourinho told Portuguese publication Record.

The Portuguese also spoke about the brilliant form of new striker Romelu Lukaku, who has 11 goals in his opening 10 games for the club, playing down the brilliant start to life at Old Trafford that he has made and saying he has always possessed the talent.

“I don’t want to speak about this progress,” said Mourinho.

“Because if I do that it looks like we have done something extraordinary in three months – something he hasn’t done in the other years of his career.”

“It’s not fair. It’s been about evolution. I think every step in his career he has got it, he has grabbed it with both hands since his first loan to West Brom.”

“He grabbed the opportunity with both hands, fighting for his evolution. He has been very strong in his desire to be playing in a team with other objectives now.”
