Journalist Confirms United Have Held “Positive” Discussions As They Line Up Summer Move For “Evra Mark Two”

Manchester United have already had “positive” conversations about signing Monaco defender Axel Disasi, according to journalist Dean Jones.

It was reported back in January that the France international was being targeted by the Red Devils and Jones says a move to Old Trafford this summer is a possibility:

“He’s a different sort of player, but Axel Disasi could be viewed as Patrice Evra mark two if he was to come from the same Monaco pathway. His ceiling is high, he has as a similar age to Evra when he first arrived at the club and I’m told the initial conversations over the past couple of months have been pretty positive around this one.”

One thing to note is that, unlike Evra, Disasi is a right-back/centre-back but, as Jones points out, he would have trodden the same path as the United legend, having come through the ranks of Monaco.

There are a few factors that will decide whether Erik ten Hag’s side do make a formal approach for the player. If he is being looked at to strengthen the right-hand side of defence, a sale may be needed to facilitate the move.

If Aaron Wan-Bissaka does leave, it would leave space for someone like Disasi. However, there are reports that ten Hag is keen on Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong, and the Dutchman could be seen as the better option if he is looking for a more attack-minded fullback. We shall have to wait and see who United end up going after.
