Manchester United are one of a number of teams scouting Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Maurits Kjaergaard, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian journalist claims that the Dane is on the club’s radar, although he does emphasise that the player may not be a priority target for the Red Devils at the moment:
“Maurits Kjaergaard of Red Bull Salzburg is an emerging talent catching the eye, but he is really just one of many, many players scouted by Manchester United. Top clubs always scout the best young talents, and he’s certainly one of them. But it’s not just Manchester United watching his progress, there are five or six top clubs following him.”
Fans on Twitter have been discussing United’s interest in Kjaergaard. Some are pleased that the scouting department are trying to identify promising players earlier in their development, while others question whether the teenager is good enough for the first team:
He’s the next eriksen/modric

We need to make these kind of signings more like we didi with Malacia. Low risk, high potential signings can help in getting first priority targets in other positions like ST or midfield.

Kjaergaard is an exciting young prospect. Despite being only 19 years of age, he is already captain of Denmark’s Under 21 team, and he has also been performing well at club level for Salzburg this campaign.
The midfielder has scored two goals and provided nine assists in 32 appearances, having started all six Champions League group games, including two fixtures versus Chelsea.
