United Trail Chelsea Following Agent Talks As Race Heats Up For La Liga Shot Stopper With £87.5M Release Clause

Manchester United and Tottenham are both interested in signing Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili but it is Chelsea that are leading the battle to secure his signature, according to Deportes COPE Valencia.

While the Red Devils and Spurs have spoken with the Georgian international’s representative in recent months, the Blues have made the most progress in negotiations.

Mamardashvili’s agents were reportedly invited to watch Chelsea’s game against Liverpool earlier this week, and it appears that a move to Stamford Bridge is the most likely outcome at the moment.

The 22-year-old is believed to have a €100m (£87.5m) release clause but it is expected that Valencia will accept a fee below that figure.

United’s interest in Mamardashvili is likely due to the uncertainty surrounding David De Gea’s future at Old Trafford. The Spaniard has rejected a new contract and, with his current deal set to expire in June, a replacement may need to be found.
