“He’s Had His Time…” Alan Shearer Names The United Star That Ten Hag Should Sell This Summer

BBC pundit Alan Shearer believes Manchester United should part ways with Anthony Martial at the end of the season.

The Frenchman has been at Old Trafford for nearly eight years but Shearer thinks that manager Erik ten Hag needs to replace the forward so the club can move to the next level:

“Anthony Martial has had enough time at Manchester United. You don’t need to make any big decision on him because I think the decision has already been made or it should already have been made.”

“He’s been there long enough, he’s had enough chances. He’s not good enough to take Man United to where they want to be. If he was good enough he would be starting on a regular basis and he would be scoring goals. He’s had his time and it hasn’t worked for him, that’s my opinion.”

Martial has had a patchy career with United. He had a very strong first campaign with the club, and he also racked up 23 goals during the 2019/20 season.

However, the 27-year-old has gone through periods of poor form, and injuries have also taken their toll on the player.

When Martial left United for a loan spell at Sevilla last year, nobody expected to see him back in Manchester but, after struggling in Spain, he was given another chance by ten Hag.

The Dutchman has said on more than one occasion that he rates the striker but, as Shearer says, if the club are going to start challenging for league titles, they need someone who is more consistent and reliable.
