United Identify Weghorst ‘Replacement’ After Scouting Trip But ‘Starting Price’ Could Be As High As £70M

Manchester United are considering Roma striker Tammy Abraham as a potential “replacement” for Wout Weghorst, according to the Gazzetta Dello Sport.

The Italian newspaper claims that the Red Devils had scouts in attendance as the forward scored in the 1-1 draw against AC Milan at the weekend.

Chelsea have a buyback clause on Abraham, which means that they can re-sign the England international at the end of the season for €80m (£70m).

Gazzetta report that this is the “starting price” if any other team wants to get involved in the battle for the 25-year-old’s signature. However, the fact that the forward has only scored nine goals in 45 matches this campaign would make that an exorbitant fee.

It is believed that Roma are hoping that the presence of Paris Saint-Germain will push up the price. The Ligue One champions are considering Abraham as a possible target if they sell Hugo Ekitike but, even then, it is hard to see any team matching the player’s current valuation.
