“He Has To Go…” Rio Ferdinand Tells United Star To Leave Old Trafford This Summer

Rio Ferdinand says Manchester United captain Harry Maguire should leave the club at the end of the season in order to resurrect his playing career.

The 30-year-old has been a bit-part player since Erik ten Hag’s appointment as manager last summer and Ferdinand believes the defender should switch clubs:

“I think he needs to [leave]. If he wants to resurrect his career he has to go in the summer. He cannot stay there and play second fiddle. If he genuinely wants to stay as an England player and get back on track.”

There won’t be many United fans disagreeing with Ferdinand’s remarks. Things simply haven’t worked out for Maguire since his £80m move from Leicester City in 2019.

His first two campaigns were pretty decent, helping the Red Devils to a third and second-place finish in the Premier League under the management of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

However, things began to go off the rails last season, and Maguire has struggled to perform when called upon by ten Hag over the past few months. Mistakes have become commonplace and he is clearly no longer trusted by his manager. A fresh start somewhere else may be best for all concerned.
