Gary Neville Delivers His Verdict On Manchester United’s Title Chances

Manchester United legend Gary Neville is yet to be convinced that the Red Devils will compete for the Premier League this campaign.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer side’s 6-2 win over Leeds last night moved them up to third in the table; five points behind leaders Liverpool, with a game in hand, but Neville feels there have been too many poor performances this season which leaves him questioning their credentials to sustain a title challenge:

“You just watch them and think there isn’t a team there emerging that you’d think could challenge for the title and my gut feeling is still to say that. I don’t think I’m sat here feeling that Manchester United are going to win the league, but what I am is maybe surprised; it’s bizarre where they are considering a couple of weeks ago, I was thinking ‘this could be difficult, this could be a challenging period coming into Christmas.’ But it’s looking a little bit rosier.”

Neville is right to sound a note of caution when it comes to United. On the face of things, they are in an excellent position, compared to previous seasons but, at the same time, performances have not suggested that they are able to put a run of results together to stay in contention.

Inconsistency has plagued the Red Devils for the past couple of years and while supporters should now be more optimistic following recent displays, we need to see them perform over a number of months, rather than just a few weeks.
