Ex-Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger believes that his former club will close the gap on Chelsea once Ralf Rangnick takes charge.
The German, who played for the Red Devils between 2015 and 2017, says he can see why Chelsea are contenders for the Premier League title after seeing the 1-1 draw last night but he feels United now have a chance to regain ground on their rivals:
Chelsea’s game style has the quality to definitely win titles this season. @ManUtd is not yet there but with Ralf Rangnick, the gap will be closed.
Good luck for the next games @ChelseaFC and man utd! #CHEMUN— Bastian Schweinsteiger (@BSchweinsteiger) November 28, 2021
Rangnick has a very good reputation in Germany so Schweinsteiger’s confidence in the 63-year-old turning around United’s fortunes is not a surprise.
As some have pointed out, though, Rangnick has never managed an elite club and it will be interesting to see how he deals with the egos in United’s dressing room.
He will need to get the squad on board very quickly, with his interim role ending in the summer, so we shall find out whether he manages to get his ideas across to the players.
