Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has questioned FIVE co-presenter Joel Beya’s claims that Aaron Ramsdale could have a better Premier League career than David De Gea.

Ramsdale has been in excellent form this season for Arsenal while, in stark contrast, De Gea has made a number of costly errors in recent weeks, but Ferdinand doesn’t think that warrants Beya making such a blanket statement about the two players:

“Wow, wow, WOW! How many Premier Leagues has he (de Gea) won? How many UEFA Cups has he won? Does he have an FA Cup as well?! Probably got a League Cup in there. He has done the clean sweep domestically. I think Ramsdale has been tremendous this season. Another one who has come on leaps and bounds. Hasn’t he got two or three relegations under his belt so far?! I’m just asking.”

As Ferdinand says, Ramsdale would do well to even match the achievements of De Gea. As well as winning the Premier League with United in 2013, the Spaniard has won seven other major trophies including the Europa League, the FA Cup, two League Cups and three Community Shields.

The 32-year-old also has plenty of personal accolades. He won the Premier League Golden Glove during the 2017/18 campaign, and he has also been named in the Premier League Team of the Year on five separate occasions.
