Manchester United target Alexis Mac Allister has a “complex” release clause in his Brighton contract, according to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein.
The existence of the clause is believed to have sparked the interest of Erik ten Hag’s side, as well as Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle and other teams. However, Ornstein claims it can’t be triggered simply by making an offer at a certain price:
🚨 Alexis Mac Allister contract does include a clause that can be used to help facilitate a move. But not a typical release clause + Brighton have a say in the outcome. Multiple clubs eyeing 24yo so good chance he leaves, but not done @TheAthleticFC #BHAFC https://t.co/Xh9u3oEmfn

From the sound of things, it appears Brighton will have some say even when the clause is activated, but there are no further details about how it works at this stage.
Other reports have suggested that the Seagulls would want at least £70m for Mac Allister but it remains to be whether United will be in a position to make an offer.
Delays in the takeover progress could affect the club’s transfer plans. Another trusted journalist Fabrizio Romano says Mac Allister wants his future sorted at the start of the summer so there is a danger that the Red Devils could miss out on the World Cup winner if the ownership situation remains unresolved.
