‘What Happened To This Man’s Form?’ ‘Most Overrated Defender I Have Ever Seen’ Fans Slam United Star After Liverpool Mauling

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has apologised for his own performance in the embarrassing 5-0 defeat to Liverpool yesterday evening.

The 28-year-old was extremely poor as the Red Devils capitulated in the first half, and the centre-back acknowledged his part in the display after the match:

‘Defensively, and I’m a defender first and foremost, conceding four at home at Old Trafford is nowhere near good enough. As a player, I know myself, I will be looking at myself as an individual and the performance of the team, I’m the captain and I lead the boys. We have to come together and stick together. We have to look at each other and look at yourself in the mirror and think, what can you do better? It’s not about looking elsewhere and blaming others.”

Maguire was certainly not the only player to put in an unacceptable display but he did bear the brunt of a lot of criticism from supporters on Twitter.:

Considering the England international cost a staggering £80m, it simply wasn’t good enough. There are some mitigating circumstances in the fact that he is still recovering from a calf injury, but even so, he shouldn’t be playing if he isn’t 100% fit.

Some of the defending yesterday was comical but it wasn’t just Maguire who was to blame. The organisation of the team, in general, was woeful and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has to take his fair share of the responsibility for that.
