Manchester United would have to pay Enzo Fernandez‘s €120m (£105.6m) release clause in full if they want the World Cup winner, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The journalist was responding to reports coming out of Brazil that the Red Devils were favourites to sign the Argentinian international when he said that Benfica would not accept anything below his current buyout fee. Fans on Twitter believe the midfielder isn’t worth the outlay:
Way too overpriced

That's how they scammed €126m from Athletico Madrid in 2019 for Joao Felix
They're at it again , and Utd shouldn't fall victim to this greedy club

Considering that Benfica paid only €18m for Fernandez last summer, it is huge markup. However, with the interest being shown in the 21-year-old, the asking price isn’t that surprising.
Liverpool, Chelsea and Real Madrid have all been credited with an interest in the player and, despite being relatively inexperienced, his performances at the World Cup demonstrate he could well establish himself as one of the best midfielders in Europe.
Benfica are not exactly short of cash either, having sold Darwin Nunez for £85m last summer so they could well stick to their guns on Fernandez. If that turns out to be the case, you can see United moving on to other targets pretty quickly.
