‘Crazy To Take Him In January…’ Report Claims United Are Plotting Huge Move For 105M Rated South American Star

Manchester United are seriously contemplating making a bid for Benfica’s Enzo Fernandez when the transfer window reopens, according to Record.

The Portuguese publication claims that Erik ten Hag’s side are among “several top European clubs” who are tracking the Argentinian international, stating that they could be “crazy [enough] to take him in January”.

Whether that will in fact happen, we shall have to wait and see. Fernandez only moved to Portugal from River Plate for €10m back in July and his release clause is said to be worth €120m (£105m).

Considering how recently he joined Benfica, the Portuguese side are unlikely to sell the midfielder on the cheap. When you combine that with reports claiming that United won’t spend big in the winter, it’s unlikely that a sizeable offer will be made for Fernandez.

The Manchester club could be pressured into making a bid, though, if other teams force their hand. Liverpool and Chelsea were linked with the 21-year-old last month so United may have to see off other Premier League sides for the player’s signature.
