Watch Bruno Fernandes’s Surprise Reaction As Solskjaer Names Him United Captain

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has been named captain by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for tonight’s Champions League game against Paris Saint-Germain.

The United boss delivered the news in his press conference whilst Fernandes was sitting beside him, and the Portuguese international was visibly surprised following Solskjaer’s announcement:

Asked for his reaction to the news, Fernandes confirmed that he had not been told beforehand that he would be given the armband for this evening’s match:

“I was not expecting this – I found out this the same time as you! It is an honour, an important achievement for me. The captain is everyone – everyone needs to help, be a leader on their way. The leadership is different in every player. It is not about me, but about the team.”

Usually, giving the captaincy to a player who is not even been at the club for a year would be seen as an indictment of a lack of leaders in the squad, but Fernandes has shown he deserves the leadership role considering the way he conducts himself on and off the pitch.

The 26-year-old is passionate, has a will to win and leads by example with his goals and assists. Supporters will be delighted to see him lead the team out for the first time at the Parc des Princes.
