Netherlands legend Marco van Basten says Erik ten Hag is in the top 5% of managers in world football after guiding Manchester United to their first trophy in six years.
Ten Hag has managed to turn the Red Devils from also-rans into trophy winners in the space of just one season and van Basten has been full of praise for his fellow countryman:
“If you have a hundred trainers, then half are not very special, 45 are bad and five are good. Ten Hag is with those five trainers. He is absolutely world-class.”
Considering how ten Hag’s reign started with a home defeat to Brighton and a humiliating loss against Brentford, it has been quite some turnaround in the last six months.
Fans are now believing that the Carabao Cup triumph is just the start of things under the 53-year-old’s management. Some of the players are even saying they can also challenge the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City for the Premier League this season.
As van Basten says, Ten Hag is an elite manager, right up there with the likes of Pep Guardiola and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, so anything is possible.
