United’s Plans To Sign 47M Rated World Cup Star Could Jeopardise Contract Negotiations With Current First Team Starter

Manchester United’s interest in Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries could hamper their efforts to extend Diogo Dalot’s contract, according to reports in the Catalan media.

Dumfries is believed to be one of three fullbacks that the Red Devils are targeting ahead of the January transfer window, with the Netherlands international valued at around €55m (£47m).

The cost of the transfer means that Dumfries will expect to start regularly, which could lead Dalot to drop down the pecking order. If that were to happen then Dalot is expected to end discussions over a new deal.

The 23-year-old’s contract expires in June but United will trigger their option to keep him for an additional twelve months.

However, if Dalot decides against signing a longer-term extension, the club may be forced into selling him in the summer. Barcelona are said to be keeping close tabs on the Portuguese defender’s situation and could table a bid if he does push to leave Old Trafford.
