REPORT: United Plotting ‘Crazy’ Move To Sign 55 Cap International As Henderson’s Replacement

Manchester United are considering whether to make a move for Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, according to Tuttomercatoweb.com (TMW).

The Red Devils have only just signed Andre Onana from Inter Milan but the Italian website report that Erik ten Hag’s side are contemplating a “crazy idea” to bring in Bounou as competition for the Cameroon international.

With Dean Henderson expected to be sold to Nottingham Forest, a new backup keeper is something that the club have been looking at.

However, it was thought that United would bring in someone a bit less high profile than Bounou. The 32-year-old is Sevilla’s current number one and he has also been capped 55 times by Morocco, who made it to the World Cup semi-final last year.

For that reason, TMW say that it will be “difficult” to persuade Bounou to make the switch to Old Trafford, although they feel it is not “impossible.”

United are looking at other keepers

Bringing in a replacement for Henderson is something that the club have prioritised. In addition to Bounou, the Red Devils are said to have made an attempt to sign Fenerbahce’s Altay Bayindir.

However, the Turkish shot-stopper is believed to have turned down a move as he doesn’t want to play second fiddle to Onana. He is expected to join Ajax instead.

A move for a Japanese international could be on the cards

At the start of this month, it was reported that United had made an approach to sign Urawa Reds goalkeeper Zion Suzuki.

Considering that he is only 20 years of age and he could be available for as little as £5m, you do think the Japanese international would be a more realistic option to be United’s number two, rather than someone like Bounou, but we shall have to wait and see how this transfer story develops.
