REPORT: 36 Goal Striker ‘Open’ To Joining United As They Jump Ahead Of Arsenal And Chelsea in Transfer Race

Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres is “more than open” to moving to Manchester United this summer, according to HITC Football.

The website claim that the Red Devils have “made a move” for the Swedish international, who has scored 36 goals in all competitions this season.

Arsenal and Chelsea have reportedly been keeping tabs on Gyokeres but it is believed that Erik ten Hag‘s side and Liverpool are the two Premier League clubs likeliest to make an offer for the forward at the moment.

The presence of their North West rivals in the race is expected to complicate matters, with Gyokeres’s current boss Ruben Amorim tipped to make the move to Anfield.

Gyokeres has a close relationship with Amorim

Speaking about the player’s future last week, Gyokeres’s agent Hasan Cetinkaya said Amorim is an important figure for the striker:

“It will be more difficult for Viktor to stay if Ruben Amorim leaves Sporting because Viktor came precisely because of Ruben. The day we met, I said to Ruben: ‘Here’s my boy, he came to Sporting because of you’.”

“Of course, it’s an honour for any player to be able to play in the Champions League. Viktor is no exception in that respect, but there are other important things and Rúben Amorim is one of them. If he leaves, it will be more difficult for Viktor to continue.”

Those remarks do indicate that Gyokeres would seriously contemplate moving with Amorim to Liverpool if his current boss were to be appointed as Jurgen Klopp’s successor.

United would find it difficult to pay the striker’s asking price

Gyokeres has a €100m (£85.4m) release clause and Sporting are said to be demanding that clubs pay the buyout fee if they want to secure the 25-year-old’s signature.

Whether that is simply bluster and the Portuguese league leaders would sanction a sale for below that figure, it remains to be seen. In any case, you can’t see Gyokeres costing any less than Rasmus Hojlund did, which raises doubts over whether United have the funds to finance a move.
