“They’ve Had Meetings With His Agent” – Romano Confirms United Are Considering Move For Ex Chelsea Player

Manchester United are weighing up a potential loan move for RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking on the United Stand YouTube channel, Romano said talks have been taking place with the former Chelsea player’s agent, but things haven’t progressed beyond that yet:

“Werner is one of the players they have discussed… They’ve had meetings with his agent, have a good relationship with his agent. They obviously know the player very well and believe he can be one of the options, not the only one, because there are multiple opportunities.”

“So, contacts on the player side have took place. From what I heard, still no contact on club side with Leipzig so it’s something that is still in the early stages.”

Leipzig are open to offloading Werner

Sporting director Rouven Schroder has left the door open to the striker leaving the Red Bull Arena this month. In November, he spoke publicly about Werner’s situation, stating:

“If he has the notion that he would like to do something else, then we will deal with it.”

Werner has only started twice in the Bundesliga this season. The 27-year-old was sidelined with an adductor injury but he is now back to fitness and he is still not getting minutes on the pitch, having been an unused substitute in Leipzig’s last two league fixtures.

United are considering other targets

As Romano mentions, Werner is not the only forward that the Red Devils are looking at. Bayern Munich’s Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is believed to be another option, along with Borussia Dortmund’s Donyell Malen and Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy.

However, United are restricted in what they can do financially, and that will make a loan move for Werner, or a cheap permanent deal for someone like Choupo-Moting, more realistic.
