Romano Confirms That United Have Been ‘Speaking To The Agents’ Of 3 Strikers As They Eye Martial Replacement

Manchester United are seriously considering replacements for Anthony Martial, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The journalist claims that Martial could even depart Old Trafford in January. It has already been reported that the Frenchman will leave on a free transfer at the end of the season but, writing in his Daily Briefing Substack column, Romano said that the Red Devils have been “speaking to the agents” of three strikers who could potentially replace Martial next month:

“Man United are looking for opportunities. For instance, they are speaking to the agents of some strikers – they had conversations also with Anthony Martial to try to understand his future, because it looks likely he will leave as a free agent in the summer, or he could leave in January and, in that case, United are exploring options.”

“I’m told they have spoken to the representatives of Donyell Malen and other strikers around Europe like Timo Werner and Serhou Guirassy. So, many players are on the list for United up front.”

Malen, Werner and Guirassy have been linked with United before

While the fact that United are keen on Donyell Malen, Timo Werner and Serhou Guirassy is not new information, it appears that signing a striker in January has moved to the top of the agenda.

All three players are set to be made available next month. Malen is reportedly on the market for €30m (£26m), while RB Leipzig have already publicly spoken out to say that Werner can leave if the ex-Chelsea player wants more game time. Guirassy, meanwhile, has a €17.5m (£15m) release clause in his contract.

There are rival Premier League clubs pursuing all 3 forwards

Malen has been regularly linked with Liverpool in the past, although it is thought that the Reds are unlikely to make a move for the Dutchman in January.

However, there is a good deal more competition for Werner and Guirassy. Fulham and Crystal Palace are keen on the former, Newcastle are targeting the latter, while West Ham are keeping tabs on both players.
