Manchester United are weighing up a move for Real Sociedad winger Takefusa Kubo, according to The Sun.
The English newspaper report that the Red Devils “could offer Antony on loan” in order to persuade Real Sociedad into parting ways with the Japanese international during the January transfer window.
Kubo was the subject of bids from Napoli last summer but the offers were turned down. However, it is believed that Sociedad may consider selling if United or another team are prepared to pay around €50m (£43m).
The 22-year-old is classed as a “replacement” for Antony, so that is why the Red Devils would be prepared to allow the Brazilian to move in the other direction.
Since Antony arrived from Ajax for £85m last year, the winger has flattered to deceive. Some might have hoped that, after a season to adapt to the Premier League, he would begin to show signs of promise. However, he seems to have gone backward, having scored 0 goals and contributed 0 assists in 18 appearances this campaign.
United have been watching Kubo very closely
The Sun claim that scouts have been in attendance to see the forward in action for seven matches since the beginning of this season
Observers were said to be present last weekend during Real Sociedad’s 0-0 draw against Real Betis when Kubo was named Player of the Match.
What do United fans need to know about Kubo?
The Japanese star had spells in both Barcelona and Real Madrid’s youth academies but he has only really begun to show his true potential since moving to Real Sociedad in the summer of 2022.
Kubo has been in good form this campaign, having scored 6 goals and provided 4 assists in 23 appearances. He generally plays off the right flank, cutting in onto his stronger left foot.
