Sky Reporter Confirms That United Are Watching £26M Rated World Cup Star “Very Closely”

Manchester United are keeping an eye on Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg.

The usually reliable journalist says that, while the Red Devils are monitoring the Moroccan international “very closely”, it may only be a deal that is explored later on in the transfer window:

There are likely to be a couple of reasons why the Red Devils have decided not to go after Amrabat right away.

Firstly, the club are prioritising deals for a new goalkeeper and a striker. Secondly, manager Erik ten Hag already has plenty of midfielders in his squad and a few (such as Fred, Donny van de Beek and possibly Scott McTominay) may have to leave in order to raise funds for additional reinforcements.

Fiorentina is said to be demanding around €30m (£26m) for Amrabat, which isn’t exactly a huge fee for a player who starred for his country at the World Cup last year.

United may have competition for the midfielder

As Plettenberg mentions, Bayern Munich are looking at the player, but they are not close to making a bid for the 26-year-old.

Premier League teams, including Liverpool, Chelsea and West Ham, have also been mentioned as potential suitors for Amrabat over the past six months but there haven’t been any concrete links this summer.

Clubs in Saudi Arabia are, though, expected to be a threat to United’s plans but, for the time being, it looks as if no formal approach will be made for the Moroccan by the Red Devils.
