Manchester United transfer target Sofyan Amrabat is attracting interest from Saudi Arabia, according to Gianluca Di Marzio (via Get Italy Football News).

Reports had suggested that the Moroccan international had already agreed personal terms with the Red Devils ahead of a prospective move to Old Trafford, but it seems Erik ten Hag’s side will have competition for his signature.

Amrabat’s club Fiorentina have not received any official bids for Amrabat, at the time of writing, but they are said to be demanding at least €30m (£26m) for the player.

The midfielder’s contract does expire at the end of the next season, although the Viola do have an option to extend his stay for another year and they are not prepared to sell one of their prized assets on the cheap.

If Saudi clubs do get involved, it could bump up Amrabat’s price, but a lot could depend on whether he wants to leave Europe.

Amrabat has had an outstanding twelve months

While the Moroccan has played consistently well for Fiorentina, it is his performances at international level that have turned heads.

Amrabat was an instrumental figure in helping his country reach the World Cup semi-finals in Qatar, with the 26-year-old playing a pivotal role in breaking up play in the middle of the park.

He has an existing relationship with a key United figure

It should also be noted that Amrabat has worked with Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag before, with the two having spent two years together at FC Utrecht between 2015 and 2017.

Of course, a lot has changed since then, with the careers of the two men having skyrocketed, but it seems very likely that United’s interest in the player is being spearheaded by ten Hag.

The Dutchman clearly likes to sign players he has worked with before as shown by the additions of Lisandro Martinez, Antony and potentially Andre Onana.
