Romano Reveals There’s Been “A Significant Update” In United’s Pursuit Of £60M Rated Striker

Manchester United have been in “direct contact” with Atalanta about signing Rasmus Hojlund, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The striker is believed to be a key target for the Red Devils and Romano claims there is increasing confidence that the Danish international will become a United player:

“As I’ve mentioned a few times, Manchester United have been showing an interest in Rasmus Hojlund, and now there’s been a significant update. I’m told that Manchester United have now had direct contact with Atalanta over the potential signing of Hojlund. They believe personal terms will not be a problem, the feeling is very positive as Hojlund wants the move to Old Trafford.”

Hojlund is known to be a United fan so, as Romano mentions, there aren’t expected to be any issues on the player side. A lot will depend on Atalanta’s willingness to sell for a fair price.

United may have to devote significant funds to signing Hojlund

Earlier in the summer, it was suggested that Hojlund was being lined up as a backup for a more high-profile forward, but it seems increasingly likely that the Dane may be the only number nine recruited during the current transfer window.

The main reason for that is price. Atalanta are demanding around €70m (£60m) for Hojlund, which is a very high figure for a player who has only one year of experience in a top European league.

It is doubtful, though, whether Atalanta will lower their valuation considering that a number of other teams are interested in the 20-year-old.

A new rival has entered the transfer battle for Hojlund.

Reports in the German media have suggested that Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are considering making a move for the striker. Newcastle United and Chelsea have also been mentioned as potential suitors in recent months.

While the Red Devils do have one trump card in that Hojlund wants a move to Old Trafford, it does look like they will have to fight to secure his services.
