Rio Ferdinand Hails Decision To Sign “Top Player” As United Close In On £55M Transfer

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand believes Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount will be a “very good signing” for his former club.

The Red Devils finally agreed a fee for the England international last week, paying £55m upfront and another £5m in addons. With the player having now undergone a medical, the deal is almost complete and, reacting to the decision to snap up Mount, Ferdinand said:

“I think Mason Mount is a very good signing, he will be a valuable member of the squad, he’s a good player, top player, I love the way he plays football. Every manager he’s had has been nothing but positive about him, integral to everything they do.”

“(He brings) goals, assists, chances created, runs deep into the box, always a goal threat, decisive player in the team, he has to play. In big games, he can perform and impact games. He’s a high-intensity player, everything you’d want from an attacking player in midfield. For that price in today’s market, he could turn out to be a very good piece of business.”

There is still some debate among fans about whether United have overpaid for a midfielder who has less than a year left on his contract. However, it should not be forgotten that the Red Devils are signing a 24-year-old homegrown player, who has been named Player of the Season by Chelsea on two separate occasions.

Ten Hag was key to Mount choosing United

Sky Sports journalist Melissa Reddy claims that the Chelsea star was extremely impressed by Erik ten Hag’s pitch and it appears that the Dutchman was integral to the player snubbing other clubs such as Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Arsenal.

If ten Hag is convinced that Mount can improve United then supporters would be wise to trust him. It will, though, be intriguing to find out where the midfielder fits into the starting lineup next season.
