Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka has declared that he has “no intention” of leaving the Bundesliga club this summer.

Manchester United, Liverpool and West Ham have all been mentioned as possible suitors for the German international but, speaking about his future at the weekend, the player said:

“I have no intention to leave Bayern. I love the club, I love the city, I love the fans.”

Goretzka has been a regular starter for Bayern since arriving from Schalke in 2018 but the appointment of manager Thomas Tuchel has changed his standing in the squad.

The former Chelsea boss is said to favour new signing Konrad Laimer and Joshua Kimmich as his double pivot in midfield, leaving Goretzka out in the cold.

Bayern are open to selling

Despite Goretzka’s protestations, it is believed that Bayern will let him leave if a team offers between €40m (£34m) and €50m (£43m).

Considering the 28-year-old’s poor form at the back end of last season, though, that valuation may not attract a lot of bidders, and it could be the case that Goretzka gets his wish and remains at the Allianz Arena for the upcoming campaign.

United may pursue a different type of midfielder

While manager Erik ten Hag is contemplating strengthening his options in the middle of the park, it is thought that he would prefer a more defensive-minded player than Goretzka.

Reports suggest that Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat would be his preferred candidate. The Moroccan international is expected to be available for a similar fee (at around €35m/£30m to €40m/£34m) and he is slightly younger at 26 years of age.

On top of that, ten Hag has worked with him before when they were both at FC Utrecht. The Red Devils boss has a habit of signing former players, having also recruited the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Antony and Andre Onana since his arrival at Old Trafford.
