United Expected To Start Ratcliffe Reign With Swoop For 2 England Internationals

Manchester United will target Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi next summer, according to the Daily Mail.

When Sir Jim Ratcliffe takes over the day-to-day running of the club from the Glazers, it is believed that the recruitment team will be tasked with bringing in homegrown talent.

Both Toney and Guehi are likely to be sold by their clubs if their valuations are met but neither are currently expected to move before the end of the season.

With regards to the cost of the two players, reports have suggested that Brentford would demand at least £80m for Toney, although whether they will hold out for that much when he has just 12 months left on his contract, it remains to be seen.

Guehi, on the other hand, will be slightly cheaper at £60m, and the fact that he is still only 23 years of age would make him a long-term investment.

United may have a battle on their hands to sign the pair

Toney is a player in high demand. Although he is banned from playing football until mid-January after breaking betting rules, his performances for Brentford in recent seasons mean he has plenty of suitors.

Chelsea and Arsenal are interested in the striker and there is a feeling that they may make their move to sign him next month. If that happens, United will have a decision to make.

Guehi, meanwhile, is also being watched by Chelsea, who sold him to Palace in the first place, while Tottenham and Newcastle could enter the race for the centre-back too.

A new sporting director could alter United’s transfer plans

Ratcliffe is said to be considering appointing two new recruitment executives, with former Monaco transfer chief Paul Mitchell, Newcastle’s sporting director Dan Ashworth and former Liverpool head of recruitment Michael Edwards all seen as potential candidates.

If one of these three were to be brought in, there is a chance that they will have their own list of transfer targets, which may not include Toney or Guehi.
