21 Goal Brazilian Forward Admits “Conversations Are Being Held” Amid Claims Of £21.6M United Bid

Manchester United transfer target Marcos Leonardo has confirmed that talks are already “being held” with European clubs ahead of the January transfer window.

The Santos forward was asked by reporters at the weekend whether negotiations over a transfer were underway and he replied:

“Yes, conversations are being held [with European teams]. But now my head is focused on Santos, ever since I decided to stay here to help the team. Thank God I’m helping. Total focus on this final stretch, the rest I leave to God.”

Reports in the Italian media back in September had suggested that United had made a €25m (£21.6m) bid for Leonardo, although it was never clarified whether the offer had been left on the table.

Subsequently, Leonardo’s agent Rafaela Pimenta has spoken out to say that the Brazilian had an agreement with Santos that he could leave for Europe in the New Year.

Who could rival United for Leonardo’s signature?

Three other Premier League teams have been mentioned as potential suitors for the 20-year-old, including Arsenal, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest. The latter is believed to have sent a scout to watch the forward earlier this month.

There are also a number of clubs on the continent who may also get involved in the race to snap up Leonardo, including Roma, Bayer Leverkusen and Real Madrid.

Why are so many teams interested in signing Leonardo?

Despite Santos battling against relegation, the striker has been scoring plenty of goals. He has hit the back of the net 21 times in all competitions so far this campaign.

The fact that Leonardo is available for a pretty reasonable price also makes him an attractive target, particularly for United who need to take some of the pressure off Rasmus Hojlund’s shoulders.
