Manchester United are weighing up a move for Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, according to reports in the English media.
While he isn’t currently a priority target, the Belgian international is on the club’s shortlist of potential options to reinforce the midfield.
Fans on Twitter had a mixed reaction to the news that the Red Devils are keeping tabs on Onana, with some believing he would be a good addition to the squad, while others are less convinced:
he’d be an amazing casemiro backup

Actually I like him. I remember him toying with Case at goodison. He is really strong, but we need more of a creator amd I am npt sure whether hes has it in his lockers.Either way he is still young

We literally sold Garner to them who is so much better than Onana. Would make me unreasonably angry if we bought Onana from them after selling them Jimmy

Everton saw off competition from West Ham to sign the 21-year-old from Lille for £33m last summer, and he has been subsequently linked with both Chelsea and Arsenal.
Manager Sean Dyche has compared the midfielder to United legend Bryan Robson and there are reports that the Toffees may hold out for as much as £60m to sell Onana this summer.
With Marcel Sabitzer returning to Bayern Munich after his loan spell, and doubts over the futures of both Fred and Scott McTominay, manager Erik ten Hag is likely to be on the lookout for a player like Onana.
However, the Belgian’s asking price does seem to be a major obstacle and United could be considering other options.
Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat has been mentioned as an option over the past few days. The Moroccan international had an outstanding World Cup and could do a similar job to Casemiro.
Other names, such as Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka and Juventus’s Adrien Rabiot are also thought to be under consideration.
