Manchester United are currently in the “lead” to sign Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa, according to A BOLA.
The Portuguese tabloid claims that the 23-year-old is “on the verge” of making a move to the Premier League this summer, but the Red Devils will have competition for his signature.
Both Chelsea and Newcastle have also shown “interest” in Costa, and it remains to be seen who will win the race for the player’s signature.
The keeper has a €75m (£65m) release clause and, with Porto not looking to sell for below that figure, a lot will depend on who is prepared to stump up the cash.
De Gea’s FA Cup final performance has raised questions about his future
United’s current number one was arguably at fault for both goals in the 2-1 defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup on Saturday.
The Spaniard didn’t even dive for Ilkay Gundogan’s opener and he should have done a lot better with the German’s second effort just after halftime.
Multiple reports suggest that De Gea is close to signing a new contract. His current deal is set to expire at the end of the month but, after his performance at the weekend, manager Erik ten Hag may be having second thoughts about keeping him. A move for Costa now looks a lot more likely than it did even a few days ago.
