Manchester United are still in contention to sign West Ham captain Declan Rice, according to ExWHUEmployee.
The insider, who is usually very reliable when it comes to the Hammers, claims that the Red Devils and Manchester City could still make offers for the midfielder, along with Arsenal and Bayern Munich.
Most United fans on Twitter are sceptical about whether the club do have a realistic chance of beating their rivals to Rice’s signature:
no chance we sign him

I’d love him but I just think the Arsenal move is inevitable

United won’t go in for #Rice and £100m is ridiculous price to pay. Any clubs are crazy buying him for that. There are plenty of Declan Rice’s around Europe and cheaper.

United are focused on signing another England international
While the Manchester club’s interest in Rice is nothing new, it is slightly surprising to hear that they still intend to make a concerted effort to sign the 24-year-old, especially considering the cost of the transfer and the competition for the player.
West Ham are thought to be demanding in excess of £100m, while it has been widely reported that Rice’s preference would be to join Arsenal above other teams. You do feel that West Ham may be trying to drum up interest in the midfielder, and mentioning United’s name in order to get a better fee.
Erik ten Hag’s side appear to be more focused on snapping up Rice’s close friend Mason Mount from Chelsea. It is believed that the Blues are demanding around £70m to £80m so you can’t see United going in for both players.
With reports claiming that personal terms have been agreed with Mount, it seems that the Red Devils have already decided who they will be pursuing out of two.
