Bayern Consider Surprise Move To Sign Ex United Star On Free Transfer

Bayern Munich are considering whether to snap up former Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea on a free transfer, according to Sport Bild.

The Spaniard left Old Trafford after twelve years at the end of last month, following the collapse of contract negotiations.

It is believed that De Gea had initially agreed to reduce his £375,000 per week salary significantly in order to stay at the club.

However, the Red Devils then reneged on that proposal and offered an even lower wage that De Gea refused to accept.

With the 32-year-old now looking for a new team, it appears he could land on his feet by making the move to Germany.

Why are Bayern interested in signing De Gea?

Number one keeper Manuel Neuer is still recovering from a broken leg and he won’t be available for the start of the new Bundesliga season.

Yann Sommer had been brought in from Borussia Monchengladbach as a short-term replacement but the Swiss international is now agitating for a move away from the Allianz Arena.

Ironically, Inter Milan, who have just sold Andre Onana to United, are the ones looking to sign Sommer, leaving Bayern searching for another shot-stopper.

United are still looking for a new number two

With De Gea having departed, and Dean Henderson expected to follow him out of the door pretty soon, manager Erik ten Hag still wants to recruit a backup option for Onana.

It looks like a move for Urawa Reds’ Zion Suzuki has been ruled out, so United will have to consider other options.

For the time being, though, ten Hag will have to rely on Onana. The Cameroon international could well make his debut against Real Madrid in a friendly fixture. The Red Devils take on the Spanish giants at the NRG Stadium in Houston tonight.
