United Dealt Transfer Blow After 20 Year Old ‘Refuses Offer’ To Make Old Trafford Switch

Urawa Reds goalkeeper Zion Suzuki has “turned down” a move to Manchester United, according to Sponichi.

The Japanese publication headlined an article stating that the 20-year-old “refuses” the “offer” from the Red Devils due to concerns over a lack of game time.

Suzuki would have been Andre Onana’s number two if he had agreed the switch to Manchester, but he feared that his future at international level could be placed in jeopardy by making the transfer.

The Olympics are held in Paris next year and Suzuki is hoping to be first-choice keeper for the tournament. He has already been handed his first senior cap but he hasn’t yet established himself on the international stage.

You would think that signing for United would be too good an opportunity to turn down but he is clearly not keen on spending long spells on the bench.

Are United looking at other options?

In addition to Suzuki, Erik ten Hag’s team have also been linked with Fenerbahce’s Altay Bayindir. The Turkish international is quite a bit older (25) but he could be available for a similar transfer fee.

It is believed that United could sign him for around £5m, which would make him a very economical solution to strengthening the club’s goalkeeping department.

An exodus of keepers

The Red Devils have already seen two shot-stoppers leave this summer, and another one could soon be heading for the exit door.

Jack Butland left after his loan spell from Crystal Palace came to an end last month, while David De Gea’s contract was also allowed to run down, after the club backtracked on giving the Spaniard an extension.

Dean Henderson may soon follow them out of Old Trafford, with Nottingham Forest keen to secure his services. The 26-year-old spent last season on loan at the City Ground and he could now return there on a permanent basis
