Louis Saha Claims Links To World Cup Winner Could Mean That United Are Looking To Replace Mason Mount Already

Ex-Manchester United striker Louis Saha says reports that his former club are interested in Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann may suggest that they already looking at a “replacement” for Mason Mount.

The England international has struggled since arriving from Chelsea in the summer and, speaking to Paddy Power, Saha said Griezmann’s creativity would trump what Mount is offering the team:

“Antoine Griezmann is a talented player and unlike many players, there’s never any doubts about him. He’s very mobile and physically he’ll always find the right area. Manchester United’s interest in him show straight away that there is something wrong.”

“They already have Mason Mount, but it means they’re looking at a replacement for him because Griezmann is the type of player that Manchester United need. He’s a clever player who can be in the pocket, create things and score goals.”

Saha believes Griezmann would be a “short-term solution”

Although Saha believes that the World Cup winner is a talented footballer, he doesn’t believe that the forward should be a target for United due to his age:

“He is a great player who has scored so many goals for Atletico Madrid and it would be really exciting. But I don’t see him as a future signing for Manchester United. No disrespect to Griezmann at all, but I don’t understand why they would be looking at him. He’s a short-term solution but I don’t see the future of Manchester United with Antoine Griezmann in it.”

Mount has to start producing for United

While there has been speculation about Griezmann, it doesn’t seem like a transfer in January is on the cards at the moment. In fact, most believe that the Red Devils will focus their efforts on reinforcing their defence when the transfer window reopens.

Considering United have scored just 13 goals in 12 league matches, that will concern supporters. The onus will, therefore, be on the current crop of midfielders and forwards to improve their output, Mount included.

The 24-year-old hasn’t had much game time in recent weeks but, when he gets his opportunities off the bench, he must do more to impress manager Erik ten Hag so the Dutchman finds it difficult to keep him out of the starting lineup in the future.
