The agent of Benfica goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin has refused to rule out a move to Manchester United at the end of the season.
Even though the Ukrainian international only made the switch from Shakhtar Donetsk to Portugal last year, Trubin’s representative, Maryna Andriienko, said that a transfer to English football could be considered:
“(The Premier League) could be a good opportunity, Let’s wait for the summer. Trubin could get there (England) with even more visibility. Manchester United? I’m not going to talk about it. It’ll be a secret. Let’s keep it a mystery.”
Trubin has had a good season for Benfica so far. The 22-year-old has conceded just 7 goals and kept 8 clean sheets in 15 Liga Portugal appearances.
He has, though, had more issues in the Champions League, with Benfica failing to get out of their group after letting in 11 goals in 6 matches.
Trubin has been linked with clubs in England before
Before joining Benfica, it was claimed that at least two Premier League clubs were pursuing the Ukrainian’s signature. Respected journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that one of those was Chelsea.
It would not be a complete surprise if the other was United, considering they were scouring the market for a new No.1 following David De Gea’s departure.
There is, however, an additional complication now that Trubin is at Benfica. The keeper’s release clause is reportedly €100m (£86m).
Do United need a new No.1?
Andre Onana has continued to struggle, with many fans less than impressed as the Red Devils conceded three goals against Wolves on Thursday night.
While the Cameroon international’s underlying numbers are not too bad (he has the sixth-best save % in the English top flight), his overall performances have not been overly convincing.
A lot more was expected of Onana after United paid £47.2m to sign him from Inter Milan last summer, and he needs to show some improvement between now and the end of the campaign to stop speculation about a replacement being signed.
