United Tipped To Get In Involved In Three Team “Bidding War” For World Cup Star Who Could Be Sold For 44M

Manchester United, Chelsea and Bayern Munich are vying to sign Inter Milan wingback Denzel Dumfries, according to journalist Marco Barzaghi.

The Italian reporter says that a “bidding war” could ensue between the three teams, with the Netherlands international likely to be sold for between €50m (£44m) and €60m (£53m):

“Dumfries had a star turn in the World Cup, with goals and assists. Given the prices that are circulating, 60 million [euros] could fit, but even 50 million [euros] could be good. A bidding war cannot be ruled out with Chelsea, Manchester United and Bayern Munich.”

United are on the lookout for a new right-back, with manager Erik ten Hag said to be keen on providing some competition for Diogo Dalot.

However, funds are limited and, without the club selling Aaron Wan-Bissaka, it seems unlikely that the Red Devils will have the financial resources to enter the battle for Dumfries’ signature.

Wan-Bissaka has also started the last two Premier League games since the World Cup and Erik ten Hag did express his satisfaction with the 25-year-old’s performance in the victory over Nottingham Forest last week. It could be the case that United will hold fire on signing a replacement for now.
