United Have ‘Shelved’ Attempts To Sign 35M Rated French Defender In Latest Blow To Ten Hag’s January Transfer Plans

Manchester United have “shelved” their move for Lyon right-back Malo Gusto, according to the Daily Mail.

With the 19-year-old having a £35m asking price, it has been decided that any approach will now have to wait until the summer when there will be more funds available.

Takeover talks mean that current owners the Glazer family are not willing to spend big next month, and as a consequence, their attempts to sign Gusto have been put on the back burner.

Manager Erik ten Hag is likely to be pretty disappointed with the development. The Dutchman would like to strengthen his options on the right flank as the club look to push for a top-four finish.

Diogo Dalot has performed admirably so far this campaign but ten Hag is not believed to be a fan of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Gusto was likely being eyed as a replacement.

The Frenchman is also interesting other Premier League teams, including Newcastle and Chelsea, so there is a danger that United may miss out on the defender’s signature.
