United Player Ratings V Manchester City – Bruno Fernandes And 2 Other Players Get 3/10, 6 Others Get 4

It was an awful performance from the home side as Manchester United was soundly beaten by their City rivals on Sunday evening.

Manager Erik ten Hag has plenty of questions to answer about his tactics and selection decisions.

While some fans saw this coming, considering recent displays, it doesn’t make it any easier to accept. It was a capitulation, with very few positives to come out of the game.

Manchester United Player Ratings v Manchester City

Andre Onana – 7/10 – made a number of good saves, and he did the best he could to stop it from being more than a 3-goal defeat.

Diogo Dalot – 4/10 – beaten time and time again by Grealish, but he wasn’t helped by Bruno Fernandes, with the captain failing to track back from his position on the right flank.

Harry Maguire – 5/10 – was not to blame for any of the three goals but he was pretty overwhelmed with wave upon wave of City attacks.

Jonny Evans – 4/10 – only ten Hag can explain why the 35-year-old started ahead of Raphael Varane. He failed to track Haaland for the 2nd goal and Foden gave him the slip for the 3rd too.

Victor Lindelof – 4/10 – another perplexing decision from ten Hag. A recognised left-back in Sergio Reguilon was left twiddling his thumbs on the bench but the manager felt a right-footed centre-half was the better option.

Sofyan Ambrabat – 3/10 – the Moroccan has struggled since arriving at Old Trafford and he was deservedly hooked at half-time. He gave away the freekick prior to the penalty and was needlessly booked for clashing with Phil Foden.

Scott McTominay – 4/10 – one of the few United players who forced a save from Ederson but, for some reason, ten Hag decided to push him deeper in the second half, which meant his attacking threat was blunted.

Christian Eriksen – 3/10 – after an excellent performance in the second half versus FC Copenhagen midweek, he was deservedly given a start against City, but he couldn’t affect the game, and he allowed Rodri to waltz past him before the 3rd goal.

Bruno Fernandes – 3/10 – the captain failed to make any impact on the match, but it didn’t help that he was forced to play wide on the right.

Rasmus Hojlund – 4/10 – it wasn’t a good day for the Dane. After giving away a penalty, he fluffed his lines after going one-on-one with Ederson.

Marcus Rashford – 5/10 – the forward failed to take one of United’s few chances in the second half, putting the ball wide of the far post. He did, however, deliver a delightful diagonal ball for McTominay who forced a save from Ederson.

Substitutes

Mason Mount – 4/10 – did nothing when he came on in the second half.

Sergio Reguilon – 5/10 – the Spaniard did little wrong during his 15 minutes on the pitch.

Alejandro Garnacho – 5/10 – brought some energy but not much else.

Antony – N/A – got a yellow card

Anthony Martial – N/A – had little time to make an impact.
