Bayern Munich head coach Thomas Tuchel has revealed that he would like to work in the Premier League again.
The German spent 18 months at Chelsea before being sacked in September 2022, and he has been linked with replacing Erik ten Hag at Manchester United when he leaves Bayern at the end of the season. Asked by TNT Sports whether he would be open to a return to England, Tuchel replied:
“I’d rather not answer but it is no secret that I loved it at Chelsea, I loved it in England and I loved it in the Premier League for sure, it was a very, very special time and I remember it very well.”
There have been reports that Bayern could reverse their decision to part ways with Tuchel but the 50-year-old said the chances of that happening are “very, very, very unlikely” as things stand.
Tuchel wants the United job
Speaking to the Sky Sports’ Back Pages podcast, highly respected journalist David Ornstein made it clear that Tuchel is keen on a move to Old Trafford:
“When you’re looking at these candidates, or potential candidates, our understanding is that Thomas Tuchel does want that job if there’s a vacancy.”
Other less reliable reporters, including Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, have also said that Tuchel would be interested in succeeding ten Hag if the Dutchman is sacked this summer.
Who are the other candidates being considered?
There are three other managers who are believed to be well-liked by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS. England boss Gareth Southgate and Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi are expected to be included on any shortlist.
An approach for another former Chelsea manager, Graham Potter, cannot be ruled out either. The 48-year-old was said to have been considered as a managerial candidate for Nice, Ratcliffe’s other club, not that long ago.
